In memoriam Mieczysław Górowski (1941-2011)

The exhibition "In memoriam Mieczysław Górowski" is a subjective selection of 50 posters by this outstanding artist which have been published in print since 1968. Among the works you will find theater posters, the so-called "four" by Górowski, posters for film festivals and Organ Music Days, as well as posters with eggs and those related to our city, Krakow. The themes that Górowski touched upon in his works were varied and his oeuvre includes around 550 titles of posters.

Mieczysław Górowski was born on February 5, 1941 in Miłkowa near Nowy Sącz. In 1959 he graduated from the State Secondary School of Visual Arts in Tarnów. In 1959-1960 he studied at the Faculty of Interior Design, in 1960-1963 at the Faculty of Painting under Prof. Waclaw Taranczewski, and from 1963 to 1966 at the Faculty of Industrial Forms of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow; he received his diploma in the studio of Prof. Andrzej Pawlowski. He began teaching at the Department of Industrial Forms of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow in 1966. In 2001 he obtained the academic title of professor. He was the head of the Alternative Design Studio. Mieczysław Górowski received numerous awards for his work, among others in Colorado (1983), Japan (1985), New York (1987) or at the II International Poster Biennale in Mexico (2010). He was also a valued painter.
Mieczysław Górowski died on 31 August 2011 in Kraków.
