In Polish-Hungarian relations there is a conviction of a unique friendship that these two nations share. Apart from the mutual affinity, Poland and Hungary are surely bonded by history as well as by love for the art of poster. While Polish and Hungarian languages differ significantly, Hungarian word ‘Plakátok’ is completely understandable in Polish (as it simply means ‘posters’). At the same time, ‘poster’ in its broader meaning of medium, uses the most universal language, therefore guaranteeing mutual understanding.

The most persistent propagator of Polish poster in Hungary is the President of the Hungarian Poster Society, Krzysztof Ducki.
For a couple of years now, in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Budapest, Krzysztof has been inviting Polish artists to the University where he teaches (the Budapest Metropolitan University) to run workshops.

On each such occasion, the Polish Institute in Budapest organises a poster exhibition, which not only allows for a presentation of works of the invited artist but also constitutes a unique opportunity for a Polish-Hungarian meeting.
Thanks to Hungarian hospitality, numerous Polish poster artists have had the chance to present their works to the world.
In February 2018, during my stay in Budapest, I had the pleasure of meeting some of the most eminent individuals of the Hungarian poster society while running workshops with Krzysztof for more than 20 students from Budapest University.
We focused on two themes: ecology, which has become extremely popular, and the equally popular theme of freedom, the meaning of which is being redefined at the time of this publication.

The same topics were analysed by the students of the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw. Altogether, more than 40 students participated in the workshops. The product of those workshops is presented in the following pages.

Some of the works have already entered the final stages of international competitions and will be presented at international exhibitions such as Mut Zur Wut (Germany), Poster for Tomorrow (France) and Environmental Poster Competition (Mexico).

The selection of works created both by professional artists and the students who took part in the workshops constitutes an interesting assortment, not only through the international but also inter-generational aspect.

This exhibition serves as a summary of the workshops but also aspires to present a wider context: a truly selfless cooperation in the field of art thanks to which this encounter was possible.
