Through life with posters – 50 years of exhibitions from the collection

The 8th anniversary of the Dydo Poster Gallery, managed by Natalia Dydo, also marks eight years of contribution to the fifty-year history of exhibitions from the collection of Krzysztof Dydo – her father – known worldwide as the Dydo Poster Collection.

Over the course of this half-century, several hundred exhibitions have been held – from New Zealand and Australia, through China, Iran, and other Asian countries, to almost all European countries (including Iceland), as well as Panama, Mexico, the US, and Canada.

Natalia, Anna, Agnieszka, and Wiktor curated several of these events.

The exhibitions included from several dozen to several hundred original posters. They were presented in small private galleries as well as in museums, large municipal galleries, libraries, and public institutions such as town halls, banks, theaters, universities, and schools.

Many exhibitions were accompanied by publications – folders, catalogs, and invitations – but the most important elements were always the posters announcing the event, designed by the most outstanding Polish poster artists.

Initially, mainly due to a lack of funds, these were only modest typographic posters. Over time, small-format posters with limited print runs, approved by the censors, began to appear, eventually reaching their mature form – the B1 format, most commonly seen on the streets.

The gallery on Aleja Marszałka Ferdynanda Focha in Krakow is unable to accommodate the hundreds of posters created for exhibitions organized by Krzysztof Dydo, hence the need to make a selection. This selection was, inevitably, subjective, as many artists created several or even a dozen or so posters for the Dydo Poster Collection.

To display them all, we would need a space at least as large as the Palace of Art or the Art Bunker – venues that have previously hosted our collection. We hope that this will be possible again in the future.

This time, we limited ourselves to presenting 65 posters.

The exhibition “Through Life with a Poster” will run from October to December 2025.
